Manchester United are reportedly interested in hiring former Leeds United forward and current Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League giants want him to join their new recruitment team, and have also made an offer for him.
However, the Saints are said to be unhappy at the manner and timing of the Red Devils’ approach.
Southampton suffered relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2022-23 season.
They are bidding to make an immediate return to the English top-flight under manager Russell Martin but hopes of securing an automatic promotion place look slim.
Sitting fourth in the table with 74 points, the Saints’ best chance for promotion appears to be via the play-offs.
They are currently at a crucial stage of their Championship campaign but look set to lose one of their key staff members in Jason Wilcox.
The 53-year-old is a well-known figure in Yorkshire as he spent five years playing for Leeds United between 1999 and 2004.
His time at Elland Road saw him making 105 appearances for the Whites, with six goals to his name.
Wilcox helped Leeds to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, where they lost to Galatasaray in 2000.
He was also part of the team that reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals the following year, losing to eventual runners-up Valencia.
The 53-year-old went on to join Leicester City and Blackpool before hanging up his boots.
