Ilia Gruev could recover in time for the upcoming Championship clash at Coventry City in a big injury boost for Leeds United.
The 23-year-old picked up an injury while representing Bulgaria during the international break.
He subsequently missed the Whites’ games against Watford and Hull City.
However, the Yorkshire club are hopeful the midfielder will regain full fitness for the showdown with Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday, per Leeds Live.
Ilia Gruev has been a regular starter as a defensive midfielder for Daniel Farke’s side in 2024.
He has featured in 23 games in the English second tier this campaign, playing a key role in Leeds’ push for Premier League promotion.
In his absence, Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu were deputised alongside Glen Kamara in midfield for the matches against Watford and Hull.
And while Gray and Ampadu did a good job, the team was missing an element of control from the middle of the park due to Gruev’s absence.
Leeds are at a crucial stage of the Championship campaign as they are in a tough battle with Ipswich Town and Leicester City for the two automatic promotion spots.
The Whites are a point behind Ipswich and one ahead of Leicester in the table, albeit the Foxes have an extra game in hand.
Daniel Farke’s men cannot afford slip-ups and must attempt to win all their remaining matches to secure Premier League promotion.
