Leeds United are reportedly prepared to offer £30 million to re-sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The 28-year-old joined West Ham United on loan in January in a bid to revive his career.
But the move hasn’t worked at all as he is enduring a miserable spell in East London.
The defensive midfielder delivered a disasterclass on Saturday in West Ham’s 4-3 defeat to Newcastle United.
He was featured off the bench by David Moyes in the second-half but was at fault for two goals in a little over 20 minutes on the pitch.
However, Leeds are ready to bid £30m to re-sign Phillips once they gain promotion to the Premier League, per the Sunday Mirror.
Bad idea
Phillips enjoyed an impressive career at Leeds, where he made over 230 senior appearances and scored 14 goals.
He was a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s team that won the Championship in the 2019-20 season.
The midfielder joined Man City in 2022 in a deal worth around £45m but the move didn’t work out for him.
He struggled for opportunities under manager Pep Guardiola and was allowed to join West Ham in January.
And Phillips is now massively struggling at the London Stadium, failing to contribute a goal or an assist in his seven top-flight appearances.
The 28-year-old was undoubtedly an important player for Leeds at one time but he is currently short of confidence and greatly struggling for form.
Bringing him back to Elland Road in the summer for a huge £30m fee doesn’t make sense at all.
